Four Software Development MethodologiesWaterfall Development MethodologyThe Waterfall approach to systems analysis and design was the first established modern approach to building a system. We will write a custom essay sample on Four Software Development Methodologies or any similar topic only for you Order Now This method was originally defined by Winston W. Royce in 1970, (â€Å"The Waterfall Development Methodology†, 2006). It quickly gained support from managers because everything flows logically from the beginning of a project through the end, (Jonasson, 2008). Sources differ when it comes to the specific steps in the Waterfall process. Rapid Application Development Methodology Rapid application development is a software development methodology that uses minimal planning in favor of rapid prototyping. A prototype is a working model that is functionally equivalent to a component of the product. In the RAD model, the functional modules are developed in parallel as prototypes and are integrated to make the complete product for faster product delivery. Since there is no detailed preplanning, it makes it easier to incorporate the changes within the development process.RAD projects follow iterative and incremental model and have small teams comprising of developers, domain experts, customer representatives and other IT resources working progressively on their component or prototype. The most important aspect for this model to be successful is to make sure that the prototypes developed are reusable. Agile Development Methodology There are many different forms of the  Agile development method  including: Scrum, Crystal, Extreme Programming (XP), and Feature-Driven Development (FDD).  Agile methods  attempt to minimize risk (such as bugs, cost overruns, and changing requirements) by developing the software in iterations that  are mini-increments of the new functionality. The benefit of multiple iterations is that it improves efficiency by finding and fixing defects and expectation mismatches early on.Agile methods rely on real-time communication, which fails to provide new users with documentation to get up to speed. They require a huge time commitment from the users, and is labor-intensive on the developers due to the need to fully complete each feature within each iteration for user approval. The benefits to the software are realized early on due to the incremental addition of the iterations. The Agile methods are similar to RAD, and  can be inefficient in large organizations. Programmers, management and organizations accustomed to the Waterfall Method may have difficulty adjusting to Agile, and often a hybrid approach works well for them. DevOps Deployment Methodology DevOps deployment  is centered around organizational change that  enhances the collaboration between the departments responsible for different segments of the development life cycle, such as development, quality assurance and operations. It is focused on improving the time to market, lowering the failure rate of new releases, shortening the lead time between fixes, and prioritizing minimal disruption as well as maximum reliability. To achieve this, DevOps aims to automate its continuous deployment to ensure everything happens smoothly and reliably.Companies that use  DevOps  have benefitted by significantly reducing the time to market, improving customer satisfaction, improving product quality and improving productivity and efficiency of its employees. A few  drawbacks of DevOps includeappropriate methodology that is suitable for this project. It totally depends on the nature of the project. Many people might argue that Agile is the best methodology for software development and it does have significant advantages in most cases; however, saying â€Å"Agile is better than Waterfall† is like saying â€Å"A car is better than a boat†. They both have advantages and disadvantages depending on the environment.Agile/Scrum works best with projects that have high levels of uncertainty and require an adaptive approach. A plan-driven approach (what many people loosely call â€Å"Waterfall†) works best in situations where the requirements are fairly certain and there is some need for predictability of project costs and schedules. And, of course, that is not meant to imply that there is a binary and mutually-exclusive choice between two extremes. There are many ways to blend an adaptive (Agile) approach with a plan-driven approach in the right proportions to fit the situation. There is no â€Å"silver bullet† methodology that fits all possible projects and the right solution is to fit the methodology to the nature of the problem rather than force-fitting a project to some predefined methodology.https://blog.blackducksoftware.com/top-4-software-development-methodologiesTwo types of requirements1.Functional Requirements Functional requirements define the fundamental actions that system must perform. The functional requirements for the system are divided into three main categories, Reservation/Booking, Food, and Management. Performance Management Business Environment

Question: Discuss about thePerformance Managemen for Business Environment. Answer: Introduction Globalisation of the industries is now having its own definition for todays business environment. Various noteworthy strategies shifts are changing the playing areas of the businesses. Industries now have great opportunities to grow but at the same time, the requirement for the talented staffs and workers are decreasing. The ever increasing globalization now needs more interaction among the people that have diverse backgrounds. HR managers are facing huge challenges in the present business situation like the globalized workforce diversity, technological modernization. They are also facing challenges in the political and legal environmental changes. This report will analyze the challenges faced by the HRM and the employees that are emerging in the field of HRM. In the future, it is convenient that the employees will likely to choose their leaders at the workplace. The study will demonstrate the various implications for the employees in the stated change. The study will also outline the implications of the HRM and their different way of working for the upcoming change in the workplace. In addition to this, the report will also define the how HR have to operate for the change in method of electing the leaders at the workplace. What are the Implications for Employees? The variances of workplace diversity include the age bar, ethnicity, gender, physical abilities, geographic location, but dimensions of the workplace is not only limited to this. It also includes the educational background, religious beliefs, parental status and work experience. In the current changing business environment, employees are in belief that they should elect their leaders (Carmeli, Atwater, Levi, 2010). Employees today not want to work under an unfriendly and miserable environment. When employees have their chosen leaders, they will surely enjoy the working environment. Employees now want to elect their leaders so that all the leaders will be accountable to the people they manage. It is like if the managers and leaders are not able to earn the respect of the team members, they should not lead a team. The changing trends in the HRM imply that communality between the labor and management does not exist (Deadrick Stone, 2014). They want to take part in the decision-making process that can influence the plan layout and the production design. They want to take part in the decision-making process that was traditionally only managed by the management. The changing trends in the workplace change the nature of the worker with profound implications for the composition of the labor force, which as a consequence, have the human resource strategies of major employers (Driver, 2011). Employees would want to be awarded for more rights than the workers and the self-employed individuals. This will certainly make the employees more expensive than their counterparts, which is the reason that employers put misleading clauses towards the employees. If employees, in future choose their respective leaders, can have great legal requirements for the permanent employees of the organization (Fina, 2009). It will be essential for the employers to provide more paid leave of absence, such as yearly leave and sick and tired leave and should have to deliver the least of the meal breaks. If employees have the power to choose the person who will be their leader implies that employees would have the control over the most important variable i.e. in their day to day working life (Guest, 2011). In spite of this, the self-electing teams would have had a lot of good effects. Employees surely will have immense respect for the team leaders and would consequently respect people who have the necessary skills. Furthermore, elections will eliminate the petty politics. For a team who has autocratic leadership, some of the employees would be favorite to the manager to gain favor. And if all the employees will have the right to vote and choose their leaders, this kind of grotesque dynamics would not be seen (Hunt, 2013). In addition to this, the elections will surely remove the bureaucratic inertia and fear. When a manager or sits on a throne, employees have their own expectations and some of these expectations would be high. When employees know that their leader is going to change in upcoming months, they will surely speak up and fear will reduce. If employees would elect their leaders and elect poorer leaders, they have the opportunity to correct themselves in the next election (Chang, 2005). Some of the companies think that they can create a healthy culture by hiring the right candidate for the leader position but they also have to see that whether their selected leaders are liked by the employees. The self-electing model will surely work in almost every company (Noe, 2006). This model will give the right to the experienced employees to choose the best option for them who can take beneficial decisions for them and the company. What are the HRM Implications how might HR have to Operate Differently The current working environment is promptly altering. As measure of the association, Human Resource Management has to prepare to pact with the results of changing the business environment (Jinnett, 2016). For the Human Resource people, the changing means the understanding the implications of the workforce diversity, corporate downsizing, continuous improvement initiatives, changing skills requirements and implications of the globalization. It also means the re-engineering, the depending work-strength, employee involvement and distributed work place. In the upcoming trends of electing the leaders, human resource management should have the endeavor into new drifts to endure as the genuine trade progress partner. Business in the current situation doesnt have the nationwide peripheries to reach around the world (Levy Murnane, 2004). Employers for the upcoming trends want the workers to have the working acquaintance of the language and principles mainly in terms of ethics, principles, laws and customs of the hosting nation. HRM have to advance the apparatuses that will benefit the culturally diverse individuals to work together. HRM also have to be conscious of the age variances that are present in the todays work force. HRM have to train the people of dissimilar age bars to efficiently accomplish and contract with each other in order to admire the mixture of views of the others (Dessler, 2000). When the employees have the right to choose their leaders and managers, the HRM department will have a very significant part in economizing the organization. HRM individuals have to confirm that correct communiqu has been taken place during the election time and they must try to diminish the undesirable consequences of the rumors. They have to safeguard that the employees are kept conversant with the factual and correct data. HRM have to place the incessant development programs that emphasis on the long-term of the well- being of the association (Perrew, 2011). By this way, the organization would focus on the quality and could build a better foundation to its customers. HRM will act as dynamic role in the continuous improvements programs of the company. Whenever a corporation tries to implement any development programs, it is then presenting change in the association. Under these circumstances, HRM must prepare the employees for the change. In view of that, HRM must have the apparatuses in place for the employees to get a suitable course of what to be done and what to assume from the changes (Yam, Fehr, Barnes, 2014). For solving the issues related to the trends, HRM wants to offer skill exercise to its workers. They have to take looks on the tools of publicizing around the customization of the customers and users that apply them for the task of talent separation. For the upcoming trends where the employees are keen to choose their leaders, the HR should progress the values that understand the optimum level of the customization in the service affiliation. They have to develop values that equip the influential leaders to clarify the differences in the working condition to the employees. The HR managers understand the need for change and thus have to think and focused more on the compensation policy of the employees. What are the Implications for Leaders and Managers? Whether a person is a president or CEO of an organization or a proprietor of his or her business firm, leading employees is never an easy job. If a person is a leader, employees will surely expect some sort of things from their leaders. Some of these expectations are not fair and if an individual step forward and say that he or she wants to be a leader, he or she automatically agree to take on all the responsibilities of the employees (Spellman, 2011). If organizations held the election today and want its staffs to elect their leaders, there will always a concern to the leaders that whether the employees are going to vote them out or do the employees are satisfied with their decisions. They will also have a concern about who will be the better alternative for them and thus will create a cold war between the leaders. If an individual got elected for a leader, he or she must try to see the organizational things from new and fresh perspectives. They need to try a little harder on their way of looking at the organizational members (Byars Rue, 2000). Fresh perspectives here mean the elected leaders have to create a political platform and need to list out all the values and actions they want to accomplish. They must choose what problems they have to solve first as it is what they are elected. Leaders and managers, if elected must know the problem, they are trying to solve. Individuals usually lose elections because they make too many incorrect assumptions about what is really essential for the people. So, if leaders and managers are designing any strategy and know what they are trying to achieve and why then they must craft their strategy from the top for the betterment of the decisions. Emotions are the other issue that has its implications on the leaders and employees if they are getting elected by the employees. It is a true fact that emotional leaders destroy the capability of an organization. It has been proved in various studies that leaders who rule by emotions are less successful than the others. The leaders mood sets the tone of the organization. If the leaders and managers are negative and unhappy in the workplace, employees will never expect a vibrant and productive decision. The leaders in the current business situation have to be genuine and must behave the same under all the situations and circumstances (Bratton Gold, 2000). They have to communicate true and productive ideas and concerns of care for the employees. They have to push the organizational agendas not the personal agendas. Employees in the changing workplace trends want to feel valued and respected, and if the leaders and managers are providing them what they want, they will surely get respe ct in return. In this changing business trends, employees want a transparent relationship with their leaders. They want to elect their leaders so that they can share their opinions and views and dont want to look as an untrustworthy (Beardwell Claydon, 2007). Leaders need to be authentic who can share their information and wants to increase their commitment towards their employees. Trust and transparency have become a popular demand in todays workforce. Employees today dont want to been in decisions that have been taken without having their opinions (Tracy, 2014). If the employees knew that the jobs of the leaders can change their way of doing the jobs, they will surely want to elect the leaders that dont do that. Conclusion It has been found in the above study that over the years, the HR has moved beyond the personnel management to routine activities. The study demonstrated that if employees would elect their leaders and elect poorer leaders, they have the opportunity to correct themselves in the next election. The study also outlined that if an individual got elected for a leader, he or she must try to see the organizational things from new and fresh perspectives. They need to try a little harder on their way of looking at the organizational members. They have to communicate true and productive ideas and concerns of care for the employees and have to push the organizational agendas not the personal agendas. The study analyzed that in this changing business trends, employees want a transparent relationship with their leaders. References Beardwell, J. Claydon, T. (2007).Human resource management(1st ed.). Over the period of 1920 to 1950. every bit many as four nines boasted the name â€Å"The Famous Door† ( Chevigny ) . A modern-day Jazz author of the epoch made a general appraisal of these nines as follows: â€Å"all the nines were shaped like shoe boxes. and they had dingy canopies outside†¦ . Inside. at that place did non look to be any difference. although I am certain that the colourss of the walls. if you could see them through the coffin nail fume. were different. The tabular arraies were three inches square and the chairs were difficult wood. The drinks were likely watered. They were suffering topographic points. There was nil to them but the music.( Chevigny. p. 42 )† .All of the generalisations and unfavorable judgments aside. the nine of this clip gave advanced and exciting Jazz artists a opportunity to construe this music and portion their endowments with a broad audience. Artists of the Era No treatment of The Jazz Age in New York. or anyplace else for that affair. would be complete without some geographic expedition of the musical creative persons that brought Jazz into the spotlight and helped it to turn and germinate. Pioneers in wind music include Louis â€Å"Satchmo† Armstrong. acclaimed to be the first extremely successful solo Jazz cornetist. â€Å"Duke† Ellington. noted as the most outstanding bandleader of The Jazz Age. and Charlie â€Å"Yardbird† Parker. one of the most originative and advanced instrumentalists of this polar epoch in Jazz history ( Tirro ) . In add-on to these innovators. literally 1000s of extremely talented Jazz instrumentalists played for small wage and even less acknowledgment in many of the most creaky. foul nines of 52neodymiumStreet. non motivated by celebrity or luck. but inspired by the love of Jazz. and the worship of the fans who ever kept the party traveling and cried out for more. Get downing out in the Jazz genre and developing his ain instinctive. and typical playing manner. â€Å"Yardbird† Parker. along with many others. is by and large credited with being the male parent of the direct descendent of Jazz known as Bebop. Because of Bebop’s close relationship with Jazz. a brief word about it will be presented. A Word About Bebop Bebop. as it came to be known. is difficult to depict in words. but with that purpose. allow it be said that it is a faster. more rhythmic. and frequently improvisational outgrowth of Jazz. This genre was brought to prominence and perfected by the 1 and merely Charlie Parker. whose self destructive life style of intoxicant and drug maltreatment ironically expanded his artistic skylines and allowed him to step into undiscovered musical district in the definition of Bebop ( Reed ) . It should besides be noted that Parker’s endowments inspired another draw a bead oning instrumentalist who would in clip go a maestro of Bebop and pick up where Parker left off upon his ill-timed decease. This man’s name was John â€Å"Dizzy† Gillespie. whose immense. whiffing cheeks became every bit celebrated as the sweet music that they created with the assistance of a specially modified cornet ( Porter ) . The point in discoursing Bebop is that Jazz. straight and indirectly. has ins pired people and musical manners for coevalss. Drumhead This paper has shown many of the high spots of New York’s 52neodymiumStreet’s impact on Jazz for over 30 old ages. What mere words can non accurately gaining control. nevertheless. are the cultural alterations that this street. dumbly crowded with largely moth-eaten Jazz nines and fly-by-night characters. made in the United States throughout a formative period in its history. as the state struggled to happen an individuality and flight from world in the challenging old ages after World War I and World War II every bit good. In shutting. it can accurately be said that the forfeits that the underpaid and frequently criticized Jazz instrumentalists of 1920 to 1950 made a wise investing in this music. as it has brought untold joy to 1000000s of music fans and inspires new instrumentalists to this really twenty-four hours. Greek Heroine Cults essays

Greek Heroine Cults essays Larson, Jennifer Greek Heroine Cults. University of Wisconsin Press, 1995. Jennifer Larsons extensive knowledge on the subject of ancient women, goddesses, gods, and mythology is very apparent in this book. I found the book difficult to read as one would read a novel or even a textbook. However, I thought that Larsons very detailed (and referenced and cross-referenced) descriptions of heroine cults would make an excellent reference book. This comprehensive book details Greek heroin cults and their place in Greek society, from the worship of them, to a definition of who could be considered a heroine, to stories about them. Citing many sources and references, Larson gives an unbiased view to the many different theories and interpretations of the evidence found about the heroine cults. Larsons studies have concluded that there were many more heroine cults than history would lead one to believe (p. 4). She says that in the time of the ancient Greece, many individual families, or larger extended families worshiped their own heroines that might not be known to other Greek citizens. An other reason why heroines might not get much recognition is that they were often paired with a hero, and thus overshadowed by him. In our discussions in class, we too have talked about the fact that women are not as equally represented in history as men are, and this seems to be the case for heroines as well as for regular women. Since men were writing the histories, they wrote about their version of a hero. The famous history writers from ancient Greece would undoubtedly consider the traits of a fearless warrior to be the great heroic standard. The trials, tribulations, and wisdom of women would likely not be as interesting to the notable Greek history writers, and certainly not considered heroic, therefore the many heroine cults would not have been written about. Heroes may be defined by their courage and m ...

A Woman To Her Lover Essay Example for Free

A Woman To Her Lover Essay ? Write a critical analysis of Christina Walsh’s poem ‘A Woman to Her Lover’. Compare and contrast the poem with others you have studied in the unit. Christina Walsh, a female poet, wrote the poem ‘A woman to her lover’ as a free verse. A free verse is a poem with an irregular stanza length, no rhyme scheme and no syllabus count. Writing it as a free verse reflects her point which is women is can change their attitude towards men. She broke all the rules of poetry, this shows that women do not have to be weak towards men, it does not have to be the same as tradition, the man does not have to control the women, they can have equal love. Stanza one in Christina Walsh’s poem suggests slavery. She uses the word ‘bond slave’, which means a slave that does something without saying anything. Christina Walsh uses an image of a war, ‘as conqueror to the vanquished’. As she is the defeated, then she is forced, which shows that they are enemies. She does not want to be possessed by any one, she refuses it, and ‘O Lover I refuse you!’ she also uses an exclamation mark that shows she is serious. Christina Walsh uses alliteration of the letter ‘b’ throughout the whole poem. This is called a labial plosive. ‘To bend†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢, ‘bond slave†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ and ‘to bear’ are used in stanza one, this shows that she is angry and being very assertive. ‘To bear your children, wearing out my life’ uses caesura to balance the two ideas. She is saying that if she gives him children, it is equivalent to wearing out her life. She tells him ‘O lover’ right after the caesura that makes the phrase very strong. It is emphasized. Stanza two in Christina Walsh’s poem suggests a very different idea. It shows that she does not want to be treated as an angel that never does any mistakes or to be worshiped as a goddess, no one is perfect and neither is she. ‘Go! – I am no doll to dress and sit for feeble worship’, this shows that she thinks it is pathetic to treats someone like they are perfect and that they are just there to pleaseyou.Throughout the stanza, Christina Walsh uses alliteration in the letter ‘w’, ‘wed†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢, ‘word and wish’, ‘wingless†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ and ‘worship†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ This gives a soft sound that reflects how the man sees the women. She then uses the word ‘Go!’ to show that what she is saying is straightforward, which again shows that she is against being loved for her beauty and perfecti on. She then calls him a ‘fool’ and tells him again, ‘I  refuse you’. This shows that she is convinced with her point and the repetition shows that she I against both points she has mentioned. ‘Sonnet CXXX’ by William Shakespeare can be linked with the second stanza of Christina Walsh’s poem. They both agree about the same idea. They both suggest that women should not be loved for her beauty. At the beginning of the sonnet, the reader starts to feel that Shakespeare hates the women. He says ‘My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun’, this shows that she is not good looking; she is not beautiful. However, he concludes that even though she is not beautiful he loves her more than any beautiful girl has ever beenloved. The poem is a sonnet. This means it contains fourteen lines made up of three quatrains and a rhyming couplet at the end. Only in Shakespeare’s sonnets, the rhyming couplets conclude his point. It is also written in iambic pentameter. Shakespeare is against the idea of tradition and courtly love; he is against the idea that the man describes the women as if she is the most beautiful women on earth. He says that his love to his mistress is ‘rare’ even though he does not describe her as beautiful. Describing her as beautiful would be ‘false compare’. The third stanza in ‘A Woman to Her Lover’ Christina Walsh is trying to show us that she will not be a sex object that satisfies her husband’s desires, and neither will any women of her time. She says ‘not for you the hand of any wakened woman of our time’. She uses the word ‘wakened’ to show that this concept is not for any woman, it is for any aware and educated woman that knows her rights. Christina Walsh repeats the word ‘Or’ in both stanza two and stanza three. This shows that she has a list of ideas that she will make her refuse a man. She also uses the word ‘creature’. This shows that if she accepts the face that a man wants to marry her tofu fill his desires then that is not any better than animals.   She says ‘women of our time’ to show that this way of a relationship is old-fashioned and no one will accept, as now it is not the same as the olddays. The poem ‘To his coy mistress’ shows a teenager that is trying to convince his girlfriend to have sex with him. The boy gives her a list of reasons why she should have sex with him now.   A Woman To Her Lover. (2016, Aug 28).

Theory of Evolution and Evidence for Natural Selection Assignment

Theory of Evolution and Evidence for Natural Selection - Assignment Example Evolution occurs at different paces for different species. While it took a very long time for human beings to evolve from ape like primates into the modern Homo sapiens, for simpler organisms, evolution occurs over smaller time frames. For instance, quite a few bacteria have become resistant to anti-biotic drugs. Anti biotic drugs have been used only for the last eighty odd years and initially the bacteria could be killed by these drugs. But in recent times through evolution, the bacteria have become resistant to these anti-biotics. Evolution is caused by a process know an â€Å"natural selection† which was first coined By Charles Darwin in his famous book â€Å"On the Origin of Species† published in 1859. The idea behind natural selection is that certain features provides organisms with advantages that lead to easier survival in the environment. And this survival in turn leads to passing on of these features into future generations. A good example is that of the long neck of the Giraffe. Since longer necks allowed the ancestors of the Giraffe to access food located higher or more difficult places, those with longer necks survived better and thus the genes of the longer neck got passed on to future generations. Over time, the neck grew to the very tall stature that we observe today in the present day Giraffe. Taxonomy Taxonomy is the scientific classification of all living species. The classification is based upon a system of rankings. The primary unit in the process of classification in the domain of all living things is the â€Å"kingdom†. ... There are 5 possible kingdoms and all living things belong to any one of these with the notable exception of some symbionts like lichen which belong to two kingdoms. These are as follows: 1. Monera/Prokaryotes: simplest living organisms such as archaea and bacteria 2. Protista/Eukaryotes: unicellar organisms, i.e., living organisms with only one cell. 3. Fungi: moulds, mushrooms etc belong to this class. 4. Plantae: all plant life belongs to this kingdom, so instances are trees, grass, moss etc. 5. Animalia: is the kingdom of all animals which includes humans. The second rank in the taxonomy belongs to the Phyllum. So, the members of a certain kingdom are classified into different Phylla (plural form of Phyllum). Each Phyllum in turn is split into classes, and these classes are further divided into orders. For example, meat eating animals, known as â€Å"carnivora† are an order. These orders are further classified into families. The cat family, dog family etc are instances of families that belong to the â€Å"carnivore† order. Closely related members of each family are clubbed together under a â€Å"Genus† and the members of each genus which mate naturally are termed a â€Å"species†. There are many species in the world. For instance the crow and the raven, although similar are different species. But they belong to the same genus. These and other genus such as the magpie constitutes the crow family. The crow family along with other families such as the thrush family, swallow family are members of the order of â€Å"songbirds†. Songbirds belong to the class of â€Å"birds† and these are the members of the phylum â€Å"vertebrate†, and vertebrates belong to the kingdom â€Å"Animalia†, or the Animal Kingdom. Greenwashing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Greenwashing - Essay Example This essay is meant to make a travel through the realities of the profit-bothered present day business world and the upshot that is facing the next generation. There is no doubt that a unit of production of anything has to compromise with their controls to reduce garbage; however, the efforts it is willing to take to control the mishandling of such industrial wastes discriminates among the standards of various companies. In this alarming context, it becomes a collective responsibility of the people to protect their environment in order to get rid of the hazards in any form. If a standardized approach to ensure the shielding of environment is concerned, there arises the need for initiating the efforts to ensure the widely approved ‘green washing’ trials to save the earth from further degradation. To uncover the fact of social wellbeing lying in the core of every collective human effort, businessmen of the current time have to realize that the profitability of their motive s takes the right path only when the social requirements are fulfilled. The efforts of the visionaries to invoke the retailer giants and their sources are taking a better lead in the recent past as more and more customers are turning green-friendly by acting upon the need for refreshing the environmental conditions either directly or indirectly, thanks to their identification of most potential threats (The sins of greenwashing). However, the preference of customers to adopt a particular product that serves a specific purpose takes a categorical influx of differentiated opinions about making the right choice. In fact, it is not predictable as to what proportion of the customers is satisfied with most of the products they use daily. The need for a rethinking has to be identified with the managements of businesses that are directly dealing with the routine needs of the buyers in which they can implement trials on improving their social identity as responsible entities. The alarming fac t of uncontrollably increasing domestic garbage and the plastic disposal are the greatest actors in the challenges against the world nowadays. Many countries have recently developed a mechanism to promote the idea of protecting the environment by urging the common public as well as the visitors to adopt nature-friendly lifestyles. However, there are many witnesses from actual recipients of the evil face of many of the hoteliers and restaurant owners who comfortably compromise with their standards of such an ‘all green’ operation of their businesses. From the experience note of Lane (2011), it is so indicative as he says that most of such posters and catalogues that declare the ‘noble’ causes of behind the ‘love-all-green’ urges of the owners are no more beneficial than saving their cost-cut tactics by reducing the use of electricity and water whereby creating inconvenience to the guests. In most of the situations where the organizers of tours a nd holidays prepare sincere campaigns against the use of materials disastrous to the natural conditions of their own locations, plastic bags and containers are still a notable item of their trade. Developed countries like

Gothic Satire Essay Example for Free

Gothic Satire Essay The subject of homework is cause for much debate between teachers, students, and parents. However, it is obvious that homework is not necessary every day. Homework should not be assigned to students on a daily basis because of health issues, the level of difficulty and the problem with time management. So I suggest the teacher can assign the homework twice a week, it is a way more easy to let students done their work. To begin, daily homework is unnecessary because of health issues. Students who have too much homework can develop poor sleep habits; many students pull â€Å"all-nighters† in an attempt to keep up. Another health issue is the lack of fresh air. Students show simple exposure to sunlight can provide bodies with neccessay vitamins, but there is no sunlight at your desk in your bedroom! Lastly, stress levels go through the roof when faced with too much work; in countries like China, overworked students have a high suicide rate. Evidently, too much homework can seriously damage your health. In addition, daily homework presents an unrealistic level of difficulty. If all teachers support daily homework, a student will have a heavy workload, with homework from four classes! Some homework is simply too difficult to be completed alone; a parent is not a teacher and should not be expected to know all the answers. Finally, struggling students who face failure at school and at home might choose to give up on school completely. A student who did not understand all day will fell even more discouraged when left alone to complete the work. Obviously, daily homework is simply too difficult. Finally, daily homework causes major problems when it comes to time. Many students need to work to supplement their family income or for posr=secondary education; there is no time for a student to manage a part-time job and homework. Valuable leisure time with family and friends also suffers when daily homework is assigned. Students need connections with the people who care about them in order to be emotionally and mentally healthy. With no time to simply unwind with those we love, we cannot form healthy relationships. Last but not least, students who have homework every day cannot join extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs. The educational system constantly stresses that a successful student is an active part of the school community, but a student with no free time has no time to join and make new friends. Thus, daily homework seriously compromises a student’s free time. In conclusion, due to problems such as good health, increased level of difficulty and lack of time, daily homework should not be assigned; it is, quite simply, unrealistic. Teachers should keep in mind that they are developing future people, and people require a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Aeneas Fights With Turnus Essays -- Aeneid Virgil Essays

Aeneas Fights With Turnus In the Aeneid, Virgil describes many human qualities, problems and characteristics. Some examples which I wish to illustrate can be found in the end of epic, in the scene of the final duel between Aeneas and Turnus. Virgil also introduces a novel idea in his work. Both sides, the Trojans and the Latins, are portrayed as noble people. Even though Aeneas is fated to win, and he is the hero of the work, the opposing force, Turnus, is not portrayed as evil, but rather like a noble person in a very hard situation. Virgil deals as much with physical and psychological problems Turnus faces, being an honest and noble man, as he does with Aeneas’s problems. By the time the battle begins, Turnus knows that he will lose. His sister, who was given some divine powers by Jupiter earlier, helped him during the battle before the final duel, but then she is called off by Jupiter. Turnus knew even before the battle started that he will lose, because it was fated for Aeneas to receive the land and marry Lavinia. He was urged by King Latinus and Lavinia herself not to fight but as the poet says, â€Å"Words cannot check the violence of Turnus† (Book XII, 62). Who was Turnus’s â€Å"violence†, or anger against? I do not think that it was Aeneas. Turnus was angry at the fate that forced him to give up the woman he loved to some newcomer. He could not accept that. Virgil is showing that anger can drive a person to the most irrational decisions. Turnus went, knowingly, to die because he was angry at fate, which cannot be changed. Aeneas faces a similar problem when he has to leave Dido -- fate is against his desires, but Aeneas, chooses fate’s way, while Turnus chooses his desires. This quality is not only portrayed in the ... ...ght of Pallas’s belt upon his murderer. He decides to avenge him, and punish Turnus for his crimes. Here, justice prevails over mercy, and repentance does not achieve any results. It is difficult to see how in later times Virgil might have been referred to as a Christian before Christ. He clearly here states that Aeneas, who was a very humane hero, kills Turnus to avenge his friend despite the fact that Turnus repented his sins. At the end, justice triumphs over feelings like mercy. Both men, Aeneas and Turnus are shown to be bound by justice. Turnus cannot accept Aeneas’s usurping of his wedding rites, and is prepared to fight and die for it. Aeneas cannot accept the slaughter of his friend, and must avenge him. And even though only one of them is the hero of the epic, both follow a similar path through the work, and both get what they were assigned to by fate.

Increasing Number of Overweight Children

Nowadays, the number of children in the obese range is increasing in developed countries. This has led to a rise in the medical fees paid by the government to treat these children. Such medical expenses have reached an alarming rate that a solution is necessary to mitigate this problem. Who should we blame for the children’s health? What some people are maintaining is that the number of fast food outlets has risen dramatically. They argue that food rich in fat is usually prepared in these restaurants such as McDonald’s, KFC, and Burger King.Customers could save their time by eating in these outlets. Instant cooked meals are served within a short time. Furthermore, the food which is high in salt and calories tastes good to most of the children. Finally, they will be addicted to this food. The fast food advertisements shown on the television seem to enhance the appetite of the children. They would eventually persuade to their parents to bring them to the outlets. While th e above example may be true to some extent, some people claim that the role of the parents is the main factor. The quality of people’s lives is improving. To achieve a higher standard of living, the parents have to work from day to night. Therefore, less time is accounted for the health of the children. They may even bring the children to fast food outlets for their staple meals. Some parents may not prepare a balanced meal just because their children reject vegetables. Ultimately, it is a pity that the children have to carry their extra body mass around. In my opinion, if all the fast food outlets could be closed, our younger generation would not suffer from being overweight.

How to Study for a Multiple Choice Exam

How to Study for a Multiple Choice Exam Studying for a multiple choice exam is a skill that you can learn, hone, and perfect. These steps for studying for a multiple choice exam will improve your chances of getting the grade you want. Start Studying The First Day of School That sounds crazy, but its true. Your exam prep starts on the first day. Nothing beats time and repetition when it comes to learning. The best way to learn anything is to participate in class, take careful notes during lectures, study for your quizzes, and learn as you go. Then, when its a multiple choice test day, you will just be reviewing the information instead of learning it all for the first time.   Ask for the Multiple Choice Test Content Before you begin officially studying for your exam, ask your teacher or professor for information about the test content with questions like these: Are you providing a study guide?  This should be the first question out of your mouth. You will save yourself a ton of time scavenging through your book and old quizzes if your teacher or professor gives you one of these.  Will vocabulary from this chapter/unit be tested?  If so, how?  If you memorize all the vocabulary with their definitions, but you cant use the words appropriately, then you may have wasted your time. Many teachers will ask for a textbook definition of a vocabulary word, but there are a bunch of teachers who dont care if you know the definition word for word, as long as you can use it or apply it.  Will we need to apply the information weve learned or simply memorize it? This is an important question. A simple knowledge-based multiple choice exam, one where you have to know names, dates, and other detailed info, is pretty easy to study for. Just memorize and go. However, if youre going to need to be able to synthesize, apply, or evaluate the information y ouve learned, that requires a much deeper understanding and more time.   Create a Study Schedule Establish a study schedule at least two weeks before your test day. Using this schedule, you can determine exactly when you have a few extra hours available, then make the most of that study time, rather than cramming minutes before the exam. To study for a multiple choice exam, its best to start several weeks in advance, studying in short bursts until test day. Organize Your Chapter Notes Your teacher has probably already given you much of the test content in your notes, quizzes, and former assignments. So, go back through the material. Rewrite your notes or type them up so theyre legible. Find the answers to incorrect quiz questions or problems you missed on your assignments. Organize everything so its ready to be studied. Set a Timer Dont spend three hours studying for a test in a row. Instead, select a chunk of material to master and set a timer for 45 minutes. Study with focused attention for all 45 minutes, then take a 5-10 minute break when the timer goes off. Once the break is over, repeat: set the timer for another 45 minutes, study, and take a break. Continue this process until youre confident in your knowledge of the material. Master the Material Youre going to have choices on this multiple choice exam (thats why its called multiple choice, after all). As long you can differentiate between the right and kinda right answers, youre likely to succeed. Remember, you dont have to recite any details- rather, youll just need to recognize correct information. For memorizing facts, use mnemonic devices like singing a song or drawing pictures to help you memorize the information. Use flashcards to memorize vocabulary.   When studying complex concepts or ideas, explain the idea out loud to yourself as if youre teaching it to someone else. Alternatively, explain the idea to a study partner, or write a paragraph about it in simple language. If youre a visual learner, draw a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the concept with an idea that you already know well. Ask Someone to Quiz You To test your knowledge, ask a study partner to quiz you on the material. The best type of study partner will also ask you to explain your answer to see if you  really  know what youre talking about rather than just reciting the content.

Date Rape and Date Rape Drugs Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 2

Date Rape and Date Rape Drugs - Assignment Example The UCR statistic on rape collects information on the number of female victims involved in forcible rape incidences ((Doerner & Lab, 2012). The NCVS, an abbreviation for National Crime Victimization Survey, is a survey which interviews victims of crime about their experiences. The NCVS was introduced in the 1960s to complement the UCR. NVCS surveys gather crime specific information such as when and where the crime happened, the weapon used and victim-offender relationship. NVCS covers 7 counts of crime in two categories namely personal crimes and household crimes. Personal crimes include rape, sexual assault, robbery and aggravated assault. The NVCS statistics on rape covers both male and female victims (Doerner & Lab, 2012). The UCR greatest strength is that it is easily available as it is a primary source of crime estimates. The UCR statistics report is a summary of all reported cases of crime to law enforcement agencies. The UCR captures a lot of information on index crimes, both in terms of arrest and reports. Secondly, the UCR introduces a common metric for measuring crime in the US states. The FBI division of crime as personal and property offenses does not apply to states statutes and codes. The UCR offers a uniform measure for the 50 US states. Lastly, the UCR is continuous as new crimes are collected all the time through law enforcement offices, unlike the NVCS which requires support systems. However, the UCR has serious shortcomings. First of all, it only accounts for police reported crimes. This is a major setback as there are a lot of crimes that go unreported. Consequently, UCR suffers from ‘the dark figure of crime’. Secondly, UCR fails to collect all the relevant data. The UCR only collects data on the offender, victim’s crime details, but only details the circumstance for homicide cases. It fails to capture the weapon used ion forcible rape, and captures only data for female victims, as rape on

Explication of a poem Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Explication of a poem - Essay Example wen presents a poem which through its rich imagery, use of sounds and literary allusions, creates a picture of the soldier that is extremely different from the conventional portrait of the soldier. The most important contribution of this poem to one’s understanding of war is the fact that it breaks down the notion of war as an honorable occupation for men. Such accounts of war are almost always premised upon the masculine prowess of the people involved in the war. This poem, however, significantly, alters the view of the soldier as a masculine person. What the poem does is to introduce images of the soldier as a helpless weakling who is trapped in the hostilities between two nations. The sight of the soldier is that of a man â€Å"guttering, choking, drowning† and immersed in pain. The â€Å"desperate glory† (Owen) that he seeks turns out to be a mirage, something that is unattainable in modern warfare. What Owen seems to be indicating is the fact that the older forms of warfare that led to lesser numbers of casualties had given way to more dangerous and more impersonal forms of warfare that led to the numbing of the soldiers in question. One of the most important techniques that the poem uses in order to undercut the rhetoric of war and patriotism is the very rhyme pattern that it follows. The rhyme scheme is abab. This resembles the marching pattern of an army. The pattern, however, in the poem, only symbolizes death and decay. It represents the impossibility of progress and the boredom that accompanies a life as a soldier. Even instances of urgency and vigor are followed and accompanied by the clumsiness of wearing one’s â€Å"helmets just in time†. This is an example of a transferred epithet where the characteristics of one object are transferred to the other. The very basic act of marching is undercut and parodied in the poem, something that locates it in a canon of anti-war poetry. War is thus, something that stunts the growth of one human being and of the

The Prodigal Son in Great Expectations Essay -- Great Expectations Essa

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is an elaborate retelling of the Biblical parable of the prodigal son (Ryken 157). It follows the life of Pip as he rises through and falls from society. He begins his life as an orphaned boy in a blacksmith’s home to become a young gentleman of â€Å"great expectations†. Pip forsakes the love and care of his guardian, Joe Gargery, for advancement in society. Misfortunes befall him; he loses all his wealth and he is forced to return to his home. Pip is the prodigal son who ungratefully leaves his home and squanders all his wealth. Joe Gargery is the loving father who patiently forbears and lovingly welcomes his boy back. Pip’s redemption is revealed in the novel. Great Expectations is a bildungsroman; it is a novel which shows the education of Pip. Pip learns about the corruptness of society and the shallowness of social class. In true Victorian fashion, Dickens’ novel is a form of social criticism; it attacks the conc eited notions of society. The allusion to the parable prodigal son is hinted at early in the novel. Mr. Pumblechook and Mr. Wopsle constantly admonish Pip to be â€Å"‘grateful†¦to them which brought [him] up by hand’† (Dickens 54). Mr. Wopsle declares that â€Å"‘swine were the companions of the prodigal’† and an ungrateful child is worse than swine (Dickens 26). Mrs. Joe often reproaches Pip for being ungrateful. She resents having to raise Pip up since his infancy. However, Mrs. Joe abuses Pip (Ryken 156). She whips him for unnecessary reasons and is annoyed by any question he asks. The person to whom Pip owes his gratitude to is Joe. Joe had â€Å"sanctified† his home, making it a â€Å"pleasant place† (Dickens 112). Like the father in the parable, Joe loves Pip wholeheartedly and unconditionally.... ...oe, his two fathers who devoted their lives for his happiness. Pip’s journey home demonstrates that he has learned the important lesson of gratitude. Like other literature of the Victorian Age, Great Expectations is a novel which provides entertainment, social criticism, and moral lessons. Bibliography Primary Source Dickens, Charles. Gothic Cathedral Essay

Gothic architecture was developed from a Christian perspective, and therefore attained its most meaningful expression in churches. Clerics began to demand taller churches with more windows than had been present in the dark, but sturdy Romanesque churches. This desire was derived from new intellectual and spiritual concepts that took a more rational view of God, and saw God encompassed many things, such as light, reason and proportion. The Gothic church displayed a visual attempt to leave behind the mysterious world of the Romanesque, and create a setting that was drawn toward light and purity that could be an image of heaven. The middle class also had a great influence on the Gothic style as they desired churches that could reflect their economic power and social status. The most magnificent characteristics of Gothic style were the use of light and relationship between structure and appearance. Other defining characteristics were that the massive thickness of the walls from Romanesque architecture were replaced with membrane-thin frameworks used for enclosure which could support nothing but their own weight. Ribbed vaults were used to allow lighter materials to be placed between stone ribs, thus reducing weight. The weight of the walls and roof were no longer supported by columns, but by external flying buttresses. They also used pointed arches and slender columns to lift the ceiling, which created an overwhelming height. Wall paintings, which had been common in the Romanesque, were now replaced with beautiful and enormous stained glass windows that allowed more light into the structures, imbuing all with a sense of warmth and color. Chartres Cathedral-Interior Chartres Cathedral–Interior The cathedral at Chartres was built during the Gothic period, and it showed an ideal of harmony within its structure and contents. Work on the cathedral started in 1194, and was mostly completed in 1220. It emphasizes strong vertical lines in its structure. The stained glass windows that are used in this cathedral, (it has 176), are recognized as the finest example from the gothic style. Today, 94% of the stained glass is original, and it is the largest, most extensive collection of medieval glass in the world. Rose windows were used. The primary subject of the great roses is the Virgin and the Child. The rose windows created wholeness and completeness. Indeed, it  has a special relationship to the Virgin Mary in that it portrayed more realistic and humane qualities of the Virgin Mary. The cathedral reflects the strong influence that God held over the people at that time. It shows an expression of piety and local identity to those that were proud to live in the vicinity of the cathedral itself. It enhanced civic pride, and was the focus of the town itself.
